Although a final budget cannot be reached until further progressions are made, the makeup artist felt as though it was important to blog about possible costs of the project as part of project managing is managing factors such as costs. In industry it will be essential for the makeup artist to aware of possible costs of products, and to also be knowledgeable of how to keep cost down by avoiding unessential purchases. Through research conducted on the project based on fashion ethics, it has been proven that pollution and excess waste is a major issue caused in this past decade, and is “the second largest polluter in the world, just after the oil industry.” Charpail, M. (2017), which is having, a damaging effect on our environment. Due to this, the makeup artist will reframe from buying unnecessary products and instead use more sustainable materials, hopefully also keep cost down throughout the project. Using initiative and recyclable materials the makeup artist aims to produce work that also upholds the projects overall topic.
One image will need to use materials such as plastic that might not be considered sustainable however the makeup artist will ensure that the plastic used to construct a headpiece is recycled one finished with. To aid in keeping cost down, items made out of plastic used will most likely be already available to the artist at home. These items may include plastic wrap (Cling Film), water bottles, and plastic straws and cutlery etc. This means that no cost occurs and also means that the makeup artist can avoid purchasing any excess products that may contribute to the waste problem.
Another image requires a large headpiece and a possible dress made out of fake paper money. Printing money on multiple sheets of paper will produce waste so to avoid this the makeup artist intents to purchase fake paper prop money off amazon. This will cost roughly between £30-£40 for $500,000 (500 individual double sided notes). This purchase has been thoroughly considered before finalising, concluding that there would be no other possible way of producing the indented outcome through means of anything more affordable or eco-friendly. Other materials required to create this headpiece will include string, card, and a hot glue gun. The makeup artist already owns a hot glue gun adding no further cost to the project, and the other items, string and card, are available to the artist through the college.
