After choosing a topic that the makeup artist felt was personal to them, design concepts and ideas began to take place. The major project requires four separate images, each with different concepts relating to the chosen topic. Initially, mind maps and sketches were used as key inspiration in order to pull together ideas, designs, and overall concepts.
Woodcock, N. (2021) Mindmap
The makeup artist felt as though each image should reflect upon an ethical issue within the fashion industry. Some of the issues such as child labour & low wages were ruled out straight away due to limited ways of creating looks and designs from them without them being very literal. Instead, other issues that the makeup artist felt as though would make strong images were; fur industry, plastic pollution in the oceans, and also fast fashion’s greed for money. An interest in the future of fashion is also is a key idea for an image that will be designed using primary research conducted for the major project. This image will take inspiration from research gathered to create a look on how the future of fashion will look if it doesn’t become sustainable enough.

Because the overall intent is to make the target audience stop and think about these issues, the looks will be well planed out through preparing face charts, sketches, and practice trials. These factors will allow each image to be impactful once completed. Varied skills such as headdress making, prosthetics, and elaborate high fashion makeup looks will be demonstrated in order to achieve this goal and to showcase the makeup artist’s skills. Inspiration was obtained through various photographers work including Bailey, D. (1984), Fur Free Allience (2011), and Staudinger-Franke (2019). Using these artist’s work has provided inspiration towards some of these designs however have mostly allowed guidance when planning out how to create a shock factor for the target audience.
