Practicing Origami

In order to construct a complex headpiece which will be used within one of the final images, the makeup artist needed to practice creating origami. Origami is Japanese for paper folding, associated with Japanese and also Chinese culture. Originally, origami was used for religious ceremonies, however is now more so used for artistic purposes according to (Boggs, C. 2021). The delicate and ornate skills appealed to the makeup artist, as it was a more interesting method to produce a headdress made out of dollar bill money. This practice would show skill as well as add dimension to the overall product. By practicing this art first and foremost, the artist was able to conserve materials bought to create the final outcome.

Initially the makeup artist used YouTube videos in order to aid in the practice, as origami can be complex involving multiple steps and requires plenty of concentration. The artist was able to produce two outcomes when trailing these origami designs, a butterfly and a flower. These designs required medium skill that averaged 4-10 minutes to complete. At first the makeup artist was slow when completing the designs however advanced in time once the steps become more familiar. Some were more successful than others however the artist believes that this was due to using ordinary lined paper which was flimsy and ripped easily when not careful. Producing these

ornate designs using firmer prop money will help aid this mistake for future. The makeup artist trailed the techniques multiple times until the outcomes became completely unison.
